This WAS going to be the task for today, but as very few people were in College, we will do this the week after we return from Christmas instead.
Legal Aspects of the Internet
Two legal aspects of using, or preparing pages for, the Internet are the importance of ensuring that websites are accessible to users with disabilities, and the management of personal data.
These aspects are covered by Disability Discrimination Legislation and the Data Protection Act.
Task 1. Visit the following website and answer the questions below.
http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/web-accessibility/uk-website-legal-requirements.shtml
Do websites have to comply with the DDA, and if so, why?
When did it come into force?
What are the penalties for non-compliance?
Which site would you go to for advice on how to write a compliant webpage?
What types of disabilities would you have to take into account when designing a webpage? Give two examples.
Task 2. Doing an Internet search, list the 3 concepts and the 8 principles of the Data Protection Act. Who does the DPA apply to?
Once you have answered the questions, transfer the answers and any interesting links you have found, onto your blog. This will form part of your assessment.
